INFORMATION REPOSITORY
Participants-only Website Documents
A secure website environment is available to active ODC project participants to develop and review the model data distribution policy documents. The documents can be accessed through the following link:
Public Access Data Policy Documents
This area contains public model policy documents that have been submitted by participating sponsors.
Also see the on-line data policy documents hotlinks provided within the ODC project News/Links page...
Participants-only Website Registration Instructions
The secure participants-only
website is for the exclusive use of people who have registered to participate in
the Open Data Consortium project to develop a model data distribution policy
document.
You need a Login Name and a Password to get in.
Here's what you do to get your Login/Password:
1) Go to
www.OpenDataConsortium.org , click on
WORK GROUPS - >Work Groups and click on the arrow of any of the work groups
which you participate in. You need to register only ONCE to access any of the
work groups. This takes you to
http://casil.ucdavis.edu/account/register.php
2) Enter a Login Name (only lower-case chars, no spaces, probably best to use
firstname_lastname, or something else that you can easily remember). Enter a
password of your own choosing. Fill in the rest of the form.
3) Within a few minutes you will receive an automated email with a hyperlink to
complete CaSIL registration.
4) Follow the hyperlink and login using your login/password from step 2 above.
At this point you are part of the "GForge" (CaSIL) environment, however, you
cannot yet get into the Open Data Consortium project, which is for official
members only. There is one more step which takes only two more minutes, and
your account will be active within one business day:
5) Email me, at bruce@OpenDataConsortium.org and give me your Login Name (I
don't need your password). Within approximately one day, your CaSIL request
will be validated, and when you then enter the portal, you will have full access
to the ODC project on CaSIL.
This approach ensures that rosters, biographies, documents, and discussions are
only available to members who are actively participating in the work of this
project, not the general public. It is a secure environment.
USING THE SECURE ODC wwWebSite
DISCUSSION FORUM
This is for informal discussion on topics/issues of our choosing.
Respectful decorum is expected.
Go to
www.OpenDataConsortium.org, click on
WORK GROUPS - >Work Groups and click on the arrow of any of the work groups.
This takes you to the selected Discussion Forum. You can read the
postings, reply, or start a new thread. Explore and enjoy.
Click again on the "Forums" tab (near top of screen) and it will take you up one
level to ALL the Work Group forums. There is also an "Open Discussion" eForum
for whatever doesn't fit our four work group categories. The "Help" forum is
to ask for, or to give, mutual assistance.
If you have a serious problem with using the system, eMail Roger Kunkel <roger@ceres.ca.gov>
But, before you do, play around with it a little.
POSTING DOCUMENTS
This is for interim paragraphs, pages, or papers you want to share for our
mutual discussion. It will include interim analysis of various data
distribution policy issues, as well as the Meeting Summaries of our Work Group
deliberations. Anything shared here is only for active ODC participants. Most
common formats are OK (.doc, .xls, .pdf, etc.)
Go to
www.OpenDataConsortium.org, click on
WORK GROUPS - >Work Groups and click on the arrow of any of the work groups.
This takes you to the selected Discussion Forum. Then, CLICK on the Docs tab
(near top of screen).
Click on one of the posted documents and - voila! - it appears!
You can add your documents by clicking Submit new documentation near the top of
the screen. Fill in the form, taking care to identify the appropriate "Group
that document belongs in." Note: you won't see the document posted
immediately. The web administrator has to do something first. If you are in a
hurry, eMail me advising us you have posted a document. If
you want to start a new category of documents, let me know as well.
POSTING YOUR BIOGRAPHY
One of the categories in the Documents section is "ODC Roster and Bios". Please
upload a short file with your bio. A picture would be helpful as well, embedded
into the bio document. With these, we can learn a little more about WHO (or with
whom) we are collaborating.
